Fredericksburg, TX June 2010

Howdy!! John and I traveled to Fredericksburg, TX this past weekend with friends Jennifer and Jason. We had a great time visiting the town. The weekend was full with activities that seemed to be local in fare. It was nice to get out of Bryan-College Station for a bit.

We all got up early Saturday morning to pick peaches by hand (an experience, let me tell you :0). The farm had blackberries, plums and strawberries for us to also sample. We then went to a World War II Pacific Coast War re-enactment. Yes, I did state that correctly. Apparently, Admiral Nimitz was an important person in this event and he was from Fredericksburg, TX. His museum is located there and our trip happened to fall on a date they were doing live re-enactments. We learned all about the weaponry at the time of the war and were able to witnesses some war action. Interesting to say the least.

We all had lunch at a local herb farm, very cute!! Looks like they are building cottages to increase the bed & breakfast population out in the area. After eating we all traveled the 11 miles to Luckenbach to a custom/vintage car show. That was interesting too. Lots of old and new cars that have been very well taken care of and fixed up. If you haven't traveled to Luckenbach TX, I hope you don't get your hopes up too high. There isn't much left of the town.

Later that night we waited to see bats emerge from a cave but nothing happened. Apparently there hasn't been much of a drought so the bats don't emerge as early in the evening hours to get food since they don't have to travel too far from home. As always we sampled some local cuisine for food.

Take a look at some pics from the trip below. Enjoy!!
